Alan Kay

Truly a forward thinking man, Alan Kay described the laptop computer and iPhone/iTouch before even the home computer had been built. His idea of allowing children to play with computers and design the software, allowing them to create and manipulate their own media, is kept alive in the practice of today's children learning how to circumvent the system and create their own experience in an aggressively structured system. The first iPhone jailbreak was done by a college student, considered by some to be still developing children. The iPhone itself is an example of Mr. Kay's Dynabook. It allows the for the storage of text, sound, images, animations, and to some degree allows for manipulation by the user. The Dynabook, after being proposed so long ago, has been born and is undergoing changes. The "mouse" that ALan Kay describes is become less relevant as the finger is becoming the pointer of choice.
There are usually a few predictors of the future in the field of technology, and he was one of them. But soon technology will evolve even past what he saw and we will be exploring uncharted waters in the new technology age.
