Reflections on presentations
General observations: First, it’s still a bit ironic that we have to deal with the lag/challenges of technology in a technology class. At least it’s unique to video loading. Also, I find it fascinating that the FRESHMEN in the class appear to be light years ahead of us in this digital culture, at home with the technology and already skilled in many of the editing programs for digital communication. They’ve got the “how” down… I am trying to figure out the “why”
Matt Gerstman - Terminal tips for today
Is a blog showing folks how to show how to use the terminal/MAC. Was it created with Screencast-O-Matic.com videos and posted to YouTube? Wasn’t sure how you did that. Matt is a magician on the keyboard! Remote logon to laptop from any computer. This man will be the next great hacker! Hope he’s working for the good guys! What is .flac? Terminal integrates into SNS – can control everything from one window. Couldn’t help but wonder if he could look into mine (of course he can, but do I HAVE to give him permission?)
Aaron Binder – Digital website project
I would recommend changing the text on the website to a reverse font. Red on blue is hard to read. Created video in Maya. Aaron, did you build the little robot guy? Or was it from a file that you edited? It was really cool! If you could put a little more explanation in text about what your samples are, that would be really helpful. Maybe it was there, but I missed it.
Diego – Video “Technology – Digital Culture” on YouTube
Used iMovie 3.5 hours of video edited to create story of evolution of our culture. Used Ubu, etc. TRIED to use free software, but it refused to work so went to iMovie. Used references from class as well as Burroughs, etc. Great using screen shots for blog. Computer Chronicles! OMG! Great examples of “visionaries.” Like Wayne said in class… Makes you wonder about the predictions we’re hearing today about our future.
Kevina Lee – Youtubing as a form of communication
Nice prequel - Billions of videos?????? OMG! Millions a day???? Blogging- vlogging. Explain? I will go to plaza.ufl.edu/k.lee15/index.html to explore more. Really nice use of all the tools we’ve seen in class incorporated in a website. Really sweet birthday video on youtube.
Alberto – Windows crash was great way to open your presentation.
Open Source research and taking the leap to Linux. Cataloging experience to conversion to Linux. Macromedia FlashMX creating animations. VERY clever. Using animations he created to tell the Linux conversion story and decided to use a blog to distribute it. The Tandem…. Juicytandem.blogspot.com. Hopes to have linux experience in flash animation in the blog as final project. Great way to take the ideas and merge them with the multiple technologies we’re discussing. Good luck!
