Ascott argues that in art, just as in science, an observer is now always a participant because the observing process alters the art itself. This is very similar to a chemistry term called the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle which states that it is impossible to know both the position and momentum of any given particle since the observation process alters the very momentum of the particle. Thinking about how the human eye observes anything helped me understand this; to view anything, the eye needs to collect light that is reflected off an object. When the object is as small as a particle, this particle is affected by the light particles, or photons. These photons alter the trajectory of the particle when they bounce off into the human eye. So therefore, by the time the eye gets around to seeing a particle, that particle is already moving in a new direction, making it impossible to know both the position and movement direction of any particle at the same time. Projects are due on Thursday, so I think we should start presenting on Thursday. The earlier, the more convenient it will be for me.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about anyone else, but I've got a class right after this one on MWF and next Friday I have an exam--and I'd really prefer not to have to skip out on most of the projects.
ReplyDeleteI'm in favor of Thursday. Maybe we can take over the period Arturo's class meets (right before us) since we're doing presentations in that class later in the afternoon that day. Though I guess that could present similar scheduling problems for some people.
It might be best just to do it thurs/fri during class time. It's gonna be hard to fill in everyone's schedules.
ReplyDeleteI'm ok with doing presentations on Thurs/Fri. I think that now everyone knows that Youtube takes some time to load, we can eliminate lots of downtime and would be able to do it in 2 class periods.

ReplyDeleteI'm ok with doing presentations thursday and friday within the class times. I have a final in my class on friday right after this class, so staying until 2 would be impossible for me.
ReplyDeleteI think the best course of action is to decide in class (with a vote for example) which of the two days would be better for staying past class time. Then, whoever isn't able to stay on that day would get priority to present on the other. agree/disagree? what do you guys think?
ReplyDeleteI think Thursday and Friday during class should be enough time if everyone brings their video or other media already downloaded or on a disk. With so many diverse schedules, I think it would be too hard to schedule time outside of our regular class time.
